There are two doctrines that we forget and underplay at our own peril:
1. The Holiness of God
2. The sinfulness of man
When we forget or play down either of these concepts, the cross loses its wonder and glory.
Remind yourself of Isaiah’s experience:
In our church we are doing a 4 part series called ‘cross explored‘ where we unpack what happened at the cross. In session 2 we reminded ourselves of the New Testament word Propitiation.It is here that we understand how we can grasp God’s Holiness (and the wrath that proceeds from that) and our sinfulness (that is the object of God’s wrath).
Sometimes we are not amazed by the cross. Sometimes we worry that God is angry at us with a condemning wrath. Sometimes we think Gods job is to forgive.
propitiation brings us back to our senses.
