It happens.
Every 6 months, just like clockwork. Panic, anxiety, second guessing yourself. Will it? Wont it?
The clocks are due to move an hour. Great, you get a longer sleep. But will your phone automatically adjust for you or do you have to do it yourself? How many face this terrifying question every 6 months. Get it wrong and your either embarrassingly early or embarrassingly late.
Turns out mine did…and I did. Had I not spent a restless, constantly checking my phone clock against my watch I’d have been very late. Still, at least I had an extra hours sleep to catch up with all the waking up in an anxious sweat.
So what? What has the clocks changing got to do with anything? It has to do with God. He doesn’t change.
Change brings uncertainty, anxiety for many, confusion, helplessness. So what does God’s immutability bring us? Certainty? Peace, calm, security? It should do.
As Christians we believe in an event in history past, Christ’s Cross. We believe in a God who applies that Cross to our lives today just as He did to believers all those years ago. Our faith comes with certainty and with that peace.
But i’s not just looking back that we can see the certainty of God. Matthew 1v1, the very first verse in the New Testament, tells us;
A record of the genealogy of Jesus Christ the son of David, the son of Abraham
The certainty of the life saving event that our faith rests in was certain even before the event. How awe-inspiring is that! God had made the promises to Abraham and David centuries before and He was sovereign and unwaivering enough to bring them about.
Trust in God is a source of certainty, peace and ultimately a source of joy. Why would we trust in anything else?

[...] On the plus side it did make me think about how God’s unchanging-ness should bring us peace rather than anxiety. Read my thoughts here. [...]
