More from PACKMAN

July 30, 2009

Chapter 2 of Knowing God Discusses the difference between knowledge about God and knowledge of God.

Have we ever thought about the distinction? After all I can say that I know about Barack Obama but can I say I know him? Does it matter? Undoubtedly when those questions pertain to God it matters a great deal.

Dr, Rev, Mr Packer goes on to make two assertions. i) One can know a great deal about God without much knowledge of Him. ii) One can know a great deal about godliness without much knowledge of God.

Thinking about God

July 29, 2009

This week I started a *new* book for my prerequisite reading for WEST in September. Knowing God.

Here are a few quotes for you which stood out in chapter 1:

No subject of contemplation will tend more to humble the mind, than thoughts of God -Rev. Dr.Packer Quoting Mr.Spurgeon

Concerning those who argue that thinking/studying God is irrelevant:

The questioner clearly assumes that a study of the nature and character of God will be unpractical and irrelevant for life. In fact, however, it is the most practical project anyone can engage in. Knowing about God is crucially important for the living of lives – Mr.Packer

Dear National Waterfront Museum

July 28, 2009

Dear National Waterfront Museum,

The spacious main entrance hall

The spacious main entrance hall

I took a group of over 40 children to your museum last week. As you walk up to the building it is very impressive, has excellent facilities, and uses interactive learning methods very well.

In many ways it is a model of modern learning experience.

Yet as both a Christian and Welshman I was rather dismayed to discover that in your museum that claims:

Christian Nihilism

July 27, 2009

John Piper has spoken a lot about Christian Hedonism. That’s the idea that we should seek to indulge ourselves as much as possible in the enjoyment of God as we can, and that this is what we are designed for. It’s good and helpful to talk in these ways. I think we also need to supplement it by talking about Christian Nihilism.

Freebie Round up & Resource

July 24, 2009

As was mentioned previously a totally free Friday each and every Friday is pushing it a bit. So we promised we’d cheat and once in a while roundup what’s been given away and point you to another (hopefully Welsh) resource were you can obtain, to your hearts content, a host of freebies.

This weeks resource is the sermon repository of our very own JT (no not Justin Timberlake or Justin Taylor but Pastor Jon Thomas).

There you’ll be able to find JT expounding God’s word from such books as Luke, Psalms, Hosea an on such topics as how we treat one another, spiritual depression and faith.

You can either download the files or listen straight from the website. Let the leeching begin!

Snobby Bookshelves

July 23, 2009

How many times have you walked into someones office/room/home and been very impressed with the books you’ve seen? You’ve run through a check list in your head an all the important ones are there. “Phew!” you think, “they’re safe.”

All our prognosis interviews are given their own page hidden away up there in the navigation bar. Ingeniously you have to click on interviews.

So go check out both our recent interviews and if you haven’t already then check out all our other interviews.

Peter Baker Interview #7

July 12, 2009

Here is Peter’s answer to a question we’re considering making a standard question for all future proGnosis interviews. We aksed PB, If you had two minutes to share the gospel with a non-Christian you don’t know, what would you say?

As if these last seven videos weren’t enough, there’s one more to see. I asked PB, How have you changed theologically through your years in ministry? You can find his answer here.
