You may or may not know that we are currently looking at the story of Noah, our misconceptions of it, and it’s impact on teaching us about faith.
Week 3 saw us looking at “Faith that’s Foolish.” JT noted three things which made Noah seem foolish
- He believed a flood was coming (i.e God would judge)
- He believed that God would save him (i.e. he couldn’t save himself)
- He believed that he had to do what God told him (i.e. it was God’s way or the highway)
It got me thinking about how ‘the Cross is foolishness’ in this generation.
As 21st century Christians we seem ridiculous for believing in a God who will judge. After all if there is a God he’s a god of love…surely!
As 21st century Christians we seem deluded for believing Jesus is the one who save us. Surely we speak for ourselves? Surely ‘I am good enough.’ Not only do we not need saving but if we did it would be us that saves ourselves. We are ‘masters of our own destiny.’
As 21st century Christians we seem confused for believing God’s way is best. After all we can do what we want as long as it doesn’t hurt (or offend) anyone else.
These are foolish times for the Gospel. Now (as in Noah’s day) we will seem foolish for trusting God. But…Paul says
