In true December 28th style it’s time to do a review of theproGnosis.org 2008
What will follow will be a month by month look at some of the most active posts. That is the posts which got you commenting or those with the highest view counts. Now this isn’t to say they were the best posts. In fact, it appears that comments really only occur when people disagree. In true Christianity Explored style we always take silence as agreement.
In any case, these are the posts that made 2008 memorable to the statisticians out there.
…is this next post in my “Why did Jesus Come to Die Series.” If you’ve read any to the very end (well done) you’ll know that they are heavily stolen inspired by J.Piper’s book, “The Passion of Jesus Christ” which gives 50 reasons why Jesus came to suffer and die. So, although I’m just sampling what I see as the best (which might just be evidence of my blindness in certain areas), this isn’t very close to the end of this on going saga.
Today. Jesus came to die to give us: Health and Wealth.
Here’s number 2 (and I either I clearly can’t count, or I can’t work the automated post function). This one’s a little different to the last one. With Christmas looming, The Advent Conspiracy have made a pointed film exposing the paradox of Christmas as we’ve come to know it. Read the rest of this entry »
…As I scour a website called wikiquotes. He has said a few insightful things about a few important things. Today I was looking to see what the world had once said about Christmas and came across this:
“How many observe Christ’s birthday! How few, his precepts! O! ’tis easier to keep holidays than commandments.” - Benjamin Franklin
And here’s one already played up and down the country at student carol services.I like it a lot. the first time I saw it the dichotomy of the nativity story hit me with fresh amazement; Christmas is about the nails, the blood, the abandonment. It’s about the furthest distance ever travelled, from Throne Room to the Skull. We have nothing to celebrate this Christmas if we forget that the child came to be beaten, broken and bloodied.
Here’s the first of a Seasonal Series of films made especially for the Christmas period. I’ll be putting some more up as we get deeper into Advent. This little ditty was made by those terribly polite chaps up at St Helen’s, Bishopsgate. Read the rest of this entry »
We like to listen to our readers. And since Larry said, “I’d be interested to know the Prognosis official “Must read” book list for 2009, maybe 2 or 3 books from each of you recommended?” We thought we’d do just that and give our 2 or 3 recommended reads for 2009. Books we’d like to read, whether we get round to it or not, whether we have them yet or not. And books that, knowing what we know of them so far, we’d recommend them to you. Can you do that before you’ve read a book? Anyway, if you like the sound of them then stick ‘em on your list to Saint Nick! Here they are:
Hello old friend. It seems like a long time ago that Sammy, Steff and me drove a borrowed BMW to Newport to interview Pete Greasley. We’ve already mentioned how wonderful it was – Pete was so generous with his time that I’m fairly certain that, had we not had to leave when we did, that we’d still be there now, 8 months on. If you’ve not, why not check out my previousposts on “Why did Jesus Come to die.” Essentially the aim of this series is to show how the Gospel (as explained and expounded in the New Testament) is more than just you Sunday School answer: “To die for our sins.”
Today. Conscience. Jesus came to die to give us a clear conscience. Offended? Read on.

I recently submitted an essay for my course on the title, Critically discuss the Christian Churches Response to Postmodernism and it’s Implications. As I’ve yet to receive the mark I’m not sure if it’s worth posting here as I did with my Christology essay. However it was the first time I’d done any thinking/reading on the topic […]
Having been asked to do a one-off youth talk for my church, and being given free range of any topic I wanted, and having recently read the very excellent Fabricating Jesus, I decided to do something on the Jesus that is presented in the Gnostic Gospels. Having sneakily (as in without telling them what it was) got [...]
This Sunday we’ll have a slightly different sermon. We will still be in the Gospel of John, but will fast forward to focus on 3 verses and then build a Biblical picture of a specific subject. What is the passage? John 19:25-27 What is the subject? Motherhood ‘ ‘ So, how can you get ready for Sunday? Read John 19:25-27: What is Jesus’ […]
